The Eldorado Gold Corporation is a Canadian mining company based in Vancouver , mainly gold promotes. The company was listed on the S & P / TSX 60 stock index on the Toronto Stock Exchange . In 2012, the Eldorado Gold mines produced a total of 656,324 troy ounces of gold.

history

The company was founded in 1991 by Richard Barclay, Michael Beley, Gary D. Nordin, Marco Romero and Chester Millar. In July 2008, Frontier Pacific Mining and its gold deposit in Perama, Greece were taken over, and in December of the same year a mine in São Bento, Brazil, was sold to Anglogold Ashanti . In 2009 the subsidiary Minera Frontera Pacifica was sold to Solex Resources. Minera Frontera Pacifica is exploring a uranium deposit on the Macusani Plateau in Peru . In December 2011, European Goldfields Limited, which owned a mine and deposits in Greece, Romania and Turkey, was bought for 2.5 billion Canadian dollars . The Eldorados gold mines in Greece have already been blocked several times by residents, and an attack in early 2013 resulted in property damage amounting to millions. The Greek government condemned this and wants to grant Eldorado Gold further mining permits. According to the company, Greece is to become the largest gold producer in Europe from 2015. The projects are criticized because of their location in the dense forest areas of northern Greece, and there is fear of a heavy burden on the environment.

Locations

Eldorado Gold locations

Eldorado Gold has several mines and deposits that are being explored.

Mining areas

Kişladağ

The Kişladağ opencast mine is the largest gold mine in Turkey and is located in the province of Uşak , around 180 kilometers east of Izmir at an altitude of around 1000 meters. Kişladağ is located in a relatively young tertiary volcanic complex that was created as a result of the subduction of the Hellenic Rift. Most of the gold is found in porphyry , which is found in Latin intrusive rocks . The ore body forms a ring around a weakly mineralized zone, the gold is often found together with tourmaline , pyrite , quartz - pyrite veins and breccias and small amounts of metals such as zinc and molybdenum . Commercial mining began in the third quarter of 2006, and output from the open pit has increased annually since then. In 2012, 289,294 troy ounces of gold were produced at a cost of $ 312 per ounce.

Efemçukuru

The Efemçukuru mine is located near Kişladağ, but the gold is mined here underground. The rock consists of epithermal vein structures containing little sulfide . The gold is found in steeply sloping quartz and rhodonite veins , the surrounding rock consists of hornfels and phyllite . Three very gold-bearing zones have been identified, one to 27 meters wide and open at the bottom. Around 1100 tons of rock are extracted every day, which are then crushed. After the flotation , the liquid containing gold is brought to Kişladağ for further processing. Vine terraces were created near the mine for the local farmers. The mine began commercial production in December 2011, and in 2012 it produced a total of 66,870 troy ounces of gold at a cost of $ 583 per ounce.

Stratoni

The mine in Stratoni is located on the Greek peninsula of Chalkidiki , about 100 kilometers southeast of Thessaloniki . 3.5 kilometers away is the village of Stratoni with loading facilities in the port. The area is forested with oak, beech and pine trees. Thanks to the mild temperatures, around 20 degrees Celsius , operations can be maintained all year round. The ore is located in sulfide-rich carbonate and aplite , two marble horizons with biotite gneiss between and slate. Lead, zinc and silver are mined in Stratoni, the accompanying minerals are pyrite, galena , sphalerite , arsenopyrite and chalcopyrite . Small amounts of gold are found together with arsenopyrite. The ore body currently being mined is around 500 meters long, 25 meters wide and between 100 and 340 meters thick. The gold content is four to six grams per ton of rock, but has no economic value. The area's reserves in 2010 were measured at 1.8 million tons of rock at 10.8 percent zinc, 7.8 percent lead and 217 grams of silver per ton for a total of 200,000 tons of zinc, 140,000 tons of lead and 12.7 million troy ounces of silver . The concession for the mining area was sold to Eldorado Gold by the Greek state in 2004. In 2012, it produced 50,680 tons of lead-zinc concentrate at $ 905 per ton at a cost of production of $ 729 per ton. The project was discontinued in 2016.

Deposits

Eastern Dragon

The Eastern Dragon Project is located in the north of the Chinese province of Heilongjiang , about 45 kilometers southeast of Xunke . Winters are harsh and exploration can only be done from April to October. The gold and silver reside in multiple veins that are surrounded by volcanic and granite rocks . The ore content is 16 grams of gold and 128 grams of silver per ton of rock. The mining should initially take place in the open pit and later also underground in order to reach the deeper veins. Trial operations began in 2012, and the mine is expected to produce around 80,000 troy ounces of gold annually from 2014.

Tocantinzinho

The Tocantinzinho deposit is located in the Brazilian state of Pará , in the north of the country. The area was acquired in 2010 and explored since then, and drilling was carried out in 2012 to explore the geochemical and geophysical features around the proposed mine. A feasibility study is expected to be completed in early 2014, and if permission to build the open pit is granted, commercial gold production will start in 2016. The deposit contains measured reserves of 1.975 million tons of rock with a gold content of 1.25 grams per ton, the annual output is expected to be around 160,000 troy ounces of gold.

Perama hill

Perama Hill is located in the east of the Thrace region , about 30 kilometers northwest of Alexandroupoli . The deposit is located in a hilly karst landscape about five kilometers from the sea. The rock consists of rocky sandstone, including andesitic and volcanic breccias. The ore body has a north-south extension of around 750 meters and up to 300 meters and east-west direction. The thickness is 15 to 20 meters on the sides of the hill and up to 120 meters at the top. The very fine-grain gold is evenly distributed in the sandstone. The mining is to take place in an open pit, with an output of 1.2 million tons of rock per year. The mine is expected to be in operation for eight years. In 2012 the area was surveyed to better determine the distribution of gold in the soil, and commercial production of 110,000 troy ounces of gold per year is expected to begin in 2015.

Olympias

The Olympias project is near the Stratoni mine . The deposit is located in the Kerdilia Formation, the rock consists of gneiss and marble. Occurring minerals are pyrite, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, galena, tennantite , boulangerite and chalcopyrite with secondary cerussite , chalcosine and covellite . Occurring gangue rock consists of quartz, calcite , rhodochrosite , feldspar , kaolin , chlorite , anchorite and graphite . The gold ore is in two zones, the western one is about 1,500 meters long, 250 meters wide and five to 15 meters thick. The eastern zone is about 150 meters east of the western zone, it is an average of 75 meters wide and seven meters thick, the length has not yet been determined. The ore in both zones lies mainly in a south-north direction and slopes to the south-east at an angle of 25 ° to 35 °. The mine is expected to extract around 300,000 to 400,000 tons of rock per year. The deposit's measured reserves contain 4.1 million troy ounces of gold, 58.8 million troy ounces of silver, 599,000 tons of lead and 796,000 tons of zinc. In 2012, 826 troy ounces of gold were produced in a test run.

Skouries

The Skouries project is located southwest of Stratoni, on the same property . The deposit is a sub- alkaline copper-porphyry deposit that is in an almost horizontal position and is surrounded by amphibolite and biotite shale. Mainly occurring minerals in the potassium-containing zone are chalcopyrite veins with small amounts of bornite. The gold is found in pure form together with gangue rock and as small bubbles in sulfides. There are two very ore rich zones, one near the surface and the other at a depth of around 350 meters. First, the ore is to be mined in an open pit, the deeper ore body is to be developed underground . Copper-gold concentrate is to be produced, which is then to be shipped from the port in Stratoni or Thessaloniki. The deposit's measured reserves are 3.6 million troy ounces of gold and 736,000 tons of copper.

Certej

The Certej project is located in Romania , near the city of Deva . The deposit is located in the south of the Apuseni Mountains , where gold mining took place in earlier times. The gold-containing sediments come from the Cretaceous and Miocene , as well as Neogene andesite. The ore is found in a 1.5 kilometer long zone that runs in an east-west direction. The deposit's measured reserves are 2.41 million troy ounces of gold and 17.3 million troy ounces of silver. Construction of the open pit infrastructure is scheduled to begin in 2013, and the mine is expected to be in operation for twelve years.
