The randrianasolo's sportive lemur ( Lepilemur randrianasoloi ) is an on Madagascar living primate species from the group of lemurs within the lemurs . The species was first described in 2006 and was named after the zoologist Georges Randrianasolo.
features
Randrianasolo weasel lemurs reach a body length of 22 to 26 centimeters, plus the 25 to 29 centimeter long tail. The weight is 0.9 to 1.0 kilograms. The fur of these animals is predominantly gray in color, the belly is lighter than the back. The snout is relatively elongated, the eyes are large as an adaptation to the nocturnal lifestyle. The hind legs are long and strong.
Distribution and way of life
Randrianasolo weasel lemurs inhabit a small area in western Madagascar, the distribution area lies roughly between the Manambaho and Tsiribihina rivers. Their habitat are dry deciduous forests.
Little is known about the way of life of this newly discovered species. Like all weasel lemurs, they are nocturnal and mostly stay in trees. There they move vertically climbing and jumping, during the day they sleep in tree hollows or in dense vegetation. The diet of the weasel lemurs consists mainly of leaves as well as fruits, buds and other parts of plants.
Danger
Probably the main threat is the loss of the habitat, more details about the endangerment of this species are not known. The IUCN lists them under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
