Ute Radespiel (* 1964 ) is a German biologist and primatologist . Her main research interests are the lemurs .

Life

After studying biology from 1983 to 1985, Radespiel obtained her first diploma at the University of Regensburg . From 1985 to 1990 she studied at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , where she graduated with the thesis The spatial and social structures within a family of common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus ERXLEBEN 1777) under the experimental influence of the temporary absence of parents . From January 1995 to April 1996 she was a research assistant at the German Primate Center in Göttingen. From May 1996 she was initially a research assistant and from February to December 1998 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Zoology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hanover . In February 1998 she received her doctorate with the dissertation The social organization of the gray mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus, JF Miller 1777): a field ecological and laboratory experimental study for a doctorate in natural sciences at the University of Hanover . From January to December 1999 she did research on a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Zoology in London and at the Cardiff School of Biosciences . From January 2000 to November 2001 she worked again as a research assistant at the Institute for Zoology at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover. From December 2001 to September 2002 she was a university assistant and from September 2002 to December 2005 she was an academic adviser at the Institute for Zoology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hanover. In June 2005, habilitated them at the Veterinary University of Hannover. Since January 2006 she has been an academic senior councilor and since November 2009 she has been an adjunct professor at the Institute for Zoology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hanover.

Radespiel is primarily concerned with behavioral ecology , biodiversity and nature conservation genetics , with evolutionary biology and with reproductive behavior . Her research projects include studies on acoustic communication and parasite infections in proboscis monkeys , diversity , phylogeography and evolution in primates: the role of social ecology , communication, cognition and parasite pollution, the effects of habitat fragmentation in the “tropical rainforest” ecosystem: species and nature conservation genetics am Model of small mammal communities in the lowland rainforest along the Kinabatangan in Borneo , the phylogeography and nature conservation genetics of nocturnal lemurs, the evolution of pheromone-related communication in primates using the mouse lemur model , the management and conservation of mouse lemurs as well as the identification of relatives in mouse lemurs .

Since 2013 she has been a member of the Operation Wallacea network , an association of academics from European and North American universities who design and carry out expeditions on biodiversity and nature conservation research projects.

Radespiel was to scientific first descriptions for aeecl's sportive lemur ( Lepilemur aeeclis ), for Otto's Sportive Lemur ( Lepilemur otto ), for randrianasolo's sportive lemur ( Lepilemur randrianasoli ), for sahamalaza sportive lemur ( Lepilemur sahamalazensis ), for Bongolava mouse lemur ( Microcebus bongolavensis ) , the Danfoss mouse lemur ( Microcebus danfossi ), the Gerps mouse lemur ( Microcebus gerpi ), the MacArthur mouse lemur ( Microcebus macarthurii ), the golden brown mouse lemur ( Microcebus ravelobensis ) and the lice species Lemurpediculus madagascariensis , which parasitizes on mouse lemurs .

In 2016 she published the book The Dwarf and Mouse Lemurs of Madagascar: Biology, Behavior and Conservation Biogeography of the Cheirogaleidae in collaboration with Shawn Lehman and Elke Zimmermann
