features

Gerps Mausmaki is one of the larger species of mouse lemur and reaches a head body length of 7.7 to 9.3 centimeters, plus a 14 to 15 centimeter long tail. The weight is 48 to 90 grams. It has a brownish-gray body and a red-brown head. The color around the eyes is darker and there is a pronounced white stripe between the eyes. The ears are small and dark brown around the edges. There is an indistinct red-brown stripe on the back center line. The color of the belly side varies from light gray to creamy white and extends from the lower neck area to the genital area (including the scrotum). The forearms and legs are darker than the rest of the body. Fingers and toes are pink-brown and sparsely covered with white-gray hairs. The long tail is hairy and brownish-gray in color. It is darker on the top than on the bottom. Body fat can be stored in it. The undercoat of the animals is dense and short, the outer hair is much thinner.

Gerps Mausmaki differs morphologically and genetically from its closest relative, the Jolly Mausmaki ( Microcebus jollyae ). So it has a significantly longer tail. The species of mouse lemur with the geographically closest habitat is the Goodman mouse lemur ( Microcebus lehilahytsara ). Compared to him, Gerps Mausmaki is bigger and heavier, has a longer and wider head, a longer snout, a larger eye relief, longer lower legs, a longer third toe and a longer tail.
