The Ranft beaker is a special glass vessel.

Appearance

The beaker-shaped glass has a bell-shaped wall and a base plate with a slightly protruding bead, the eponymous Ranft. The often finger-thick Ranft (outdated term for rim) has either vertical notches, facets , polished cuboids with beveled edges or fluting . The base of the glass often has a multi-pointed star as a notched cut decoration. The vessel wall can be painted or sanded.

Ranft cups were particularly popular in the Empire and Biedermeier as " friendship cups " and souvenir glasses.
