The Rankin Point is a headland in the southeast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It marks the northern limit of the northeast entrance to Cooper Sound and the southern limit of that to Cooper Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009. It was named after the British ornithologist Niall Rankin, who carried out ornithological studies on South Georgia from 1946 to 1947.
