Raoul Paquet

Raoul Paquet (born December 2, 1893 in Lacolle , † August 4, 1946 ) was a Canadian organist, music teacher and composer.

Paquet studied piano with Arthur Letondal and harmony with Rodolphe Mathieu in Montreal, and at the same time worked as organist at the St-Pierre-Claver church . He continued his studies in Europe from 1919 to 1921, where he was a student of Abel-Marie Decaux (organ), Marc Delmas (theory of harmony) and Andrée Piltan (piano).

He then gave organ concerts in Canada, but returned to Paris in 1923 to study counterpoint with Jean Gallon . After that he was in Montreal first choirmaster at the Church of St-Stanislas , then organist at St-Sacrement and finally at St-Jean-Baptiste .

Paquet taught at the Institut musical du Canada (1922) and at the École Vincent-d'Indy and was founding professor of the Conservatoire national of Montreal . His students included Félix-Routhier Bertrand , Lydia Boucher , Gérard Caron , Maurice Dela , Romain Gour , Ernest Lavigne , Sister Marie-Stéphane (Hélène Côté), Juliette Milette , Sister Paul-du-Crucifix (Françoise Lefebvre) and Georgette Tremblay .

Paquet composed several motets , two masses , a toccata for organ, a suite for piano and the song La Croix douloureuse .
