The Raphaelshaus is a German youth welfare center in Dormagen under the auspices of Catholicism , which looks after over 250 children and young people in various forms of outpatient, semi-stationary and inpatient youth welfare . It also offers individual therapy for children with social or emotional disorders.

Task and objective

The task of the Raphaelshaus is to bring up disadvantaged children and young people who, due to their biography, show deficits and behavioral problems and who come from family backgrounds with difficult upbringing . The resources are specifically promoted and the talents of the child or young person supported. In addition to promoting children and young people, families are adequately involved in the educational process.

The willingness and ability to integrate into society should be promoted. The young people should build sustainable relationships and learn to move safely and independently within the norm of society. This takes place within reliable structures in which socially desirable behaviors can be learned for an independent life. The basis of the extensive educational offers of the facility is the Christian value orientation.

history

On July 11, 1901, the Franciscan brothers laid the foundation stone for the Raphaelshaus with a large neo-Gothic chapel in cooperation with the “Rhenish Association for Workers Colonies” . The sponsorship was transferred to the specially founded "Rheinische Fürsorge- und Erziehungs-GmbH". The opening took place on September 24, 1902. The facility grew rapidly and offered 18 different craft professions. In 1927 the sponsorship changed to the “Catholic Education Association for the Rhine Province”. V. ". Missionary Sisters from the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Hiltrup Missionary Sisters) took over the business and educational work at the same time. In 1993 the last sisters left the Raphaelshaus. From 1987 to 2017, the facility was managed by Hans Scholten as director. Marco Gillrath has been the Raphaelshaus facility manager since January 2018.
