The Wing Maze

The turf maze of Wing (also called Wing Maze) in Wing in Rutland is located at 11 whorls in Glaston Road on the outskirts of the village Wing in England .

The labyrinth (called maze or mizmaze in England) is about 14 m in diameter and consists of a single grass path that winds in circular arcs before ending in the center. This labyrinth shape was called the Classical , Cretan, or Chartres type and was linked to the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur .

The age of this lawn maze , which has survived with few others in the UK , is unknown. However, it probably dates from the Middle Ages and is mentioned for the first time in the “Leicester and Rutland Directory” from 1846 as “an old labyrinth in which the farmers go to church fairs”.
