Lists on the subject |
The Rast & Gasser Model 1898 was a revolver in the service of the Imperial and Royal Austro-Hungarian Army .
history
The Rast & Gasser was an 8-shot revolver with a cocking trigger. The revolver drum could not be unfolded, instead the cartridge chambers had to be loaded individually. A loading flap on the right behind the drum was used for this. Then the empty cases could be removed individually by means of the ejector rod under the barrel, then the cartridges were reloaded one after the other. The drum was rotated by pulling the trigger. Opening the loading flap also separated the trigger from the hammer so that no shot could be released during the loading process. The workmanship and reliability were at a high level, but the projectile energy and man-stopping effect turned out to be too low. The angle of the grip also made the weapon a bit unwieldy. The reason for the steep grip angle is the standing stop with an angled arm, unlike today. Although the model was replaced by the Roth-Steyr M1907 pistol in 1907 , the revolver remained in use until World War II.
