Council of the Republic (Niger)

The Council of the Republic ( French : Conseil de la République ) is a state body in Niger .

The body was created with the new Niger constitution that was adopted in the constitutional referendum on October 31, 2010 . Its task is to prevent and resolve constitutional and political crises while respecting the constitution and by consensus. According to the Constitution, the Council of the Republic is composed of the following members: the President , who holds the presidency , the President of the National Assembly , the Prime Minister , the former presidents and heads of state and the leader of the opposition.

At the constituent meeting of the Council of the Republic on October 25, 2012, chaired by President Mahamadou Issoufou, the President of the National Assembly Hama Amadou , Prime Minister Brigi Rafini , former Presidents Mahamane Ousmane and Mamadou Tandja and opposition leader Seini Oumarou met . Former head of state Salou Djibo did not attend the meeting.
