Competitiveness Council

The Council for Competitiveness (Internal Market, Industry, Research and Space) (WBF, English Competitiveness Council , French Conseil "Compétitivité" ) is a formation of the Council of the European Union . In June 2002 the establishment of this council formation was decided; it took over the tasks of three specialist councils (internal market, industry, research). Officially, the council meets four to six times a year. There are also other informal meetings.

Content orientation

The Competitiveness Council deals with the cross-departmental task of improving competitiveness and economic growth in Europe. In particular, it deals with the issues of the internal market , industry , research and tourism . Most of the matters assigned to the Competitiveness Council are legislated according to the Ordinary Legislative Procedure together with the European Parliament .

Depending on the topics on the agenda, the ministers for European policy , economy, industry, research or science or even justice take part in the meetings.

Preparation of legislation

Within the European Commission , the following members prepare the legislative acts for the Competitiveness Council. The political priorities themselves are set by the Council Presidency :
