The town hall Mertert ( lux . : Gemengenhaus Mäertert , French : Mairie de Mertert ) was originally built as a Prince Heinrich train station . The station, built in the neoclassical style, is located in Wasserbillig (lux .: Waasserbëlleg ) and was part of the Ettelbrück – Grevenmacher line of the Prince Heinrich Railway Company .

In 1874, 13 years after the opening of the Wilhelm-Luxemburg-Bahn (1861), the route of the Prinz-Heinrich-Bahn from Echternach to Wasserbillig through the Sauer valley was opened, which was extended in 1891 to Mertert to Grevenmacher . The Prinz Heinrich Bahnhof was built in 1895. In 1896 the Buffet de la Gare was set up there. 1954 began the closure of the railway line Diekirch - Wasserbillig. The entire Ettelbrück – Grevenmacher railway line could not be operated profitably during its existence. In 1963 all rail traffic on the line was stopped.

In 1981 the municipality of Mertert acquired the former station building, had it restored and has since used it as the seat of the municipal administration. A park was created in the area of the former railway line around today's town hall.
