Heinrich of Orange-Nassau
Wilhelm Friedrich Heinrich von Oranien-Nassau (born June 13, 1820 in Soestdijk , † January 13, 1879 in Walferdingen ), Prince of Orange-Nassau , Prince of the Netherlands, called the Navigator , was the third son of King Wilhelm II of the Netherlands and his wife Anna Pavlovna .
Life
Heinrich joined the Navy as an officer and was taken over by his brother Wilhelm III after the death of his father in 1849 . appointed governor of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on February 5, 1850 . He ruled there according to strict parliamentary principles. He was also an admiral lieutenant in the Dutch fleet.
On May 19, 1853, he married Princess Amalia of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1830–1872), daughter of Duke Karl Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach . On August 24, 1878, he married Princess Marie of Prussia (1855–1888), the eldest daughter of Prince Friedrich Karl , a second time . The reason was the impending end of the Orange-Nassau dynasty, because the king had no married sons. Both marriages remained childless. However, Heinrich had an illegitimate son, Elmer Philipp Ladislas zu Istein (1877-1904).
Henry died in 1879 in his residence Luxembourg Castle Walferdingen to the measles .
