Artà town hall

The town hall of Artà ( Catalan : Ajuntament d'Artà ) is the town hall of the Spanish municipality of Artà in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca .

The town hall is located in the center of Artà on Plaça de l'Ajuntament.

Architecture and history

The building was erected in 1941 to replace an older town hall. The plan for a new building dates back to the time of the Second Republic , between 1931 and 1936. However, due to the Spanish Civil War , the project was initially discontinued and construction only continued after the end of the civil war. The town hall was inaugurated together with the square in front of it in 1941.

After the end of the Franco dictatorship, symbols of the dictatorship were removed from the building.

The three-storey building is symmetrical. There was a holding cell in the basement. Offices, including the mayor's office and the plenary hall, are located on the first floor. There is an archive in the attic .
