Ratiratnapradipika

The Ratiratnapradipika (German: Enlightenment of the gems of love ) was written in Sanskrit by Praudha Deva Raya ( Maharaja of Vijayanagara for a short time ) in the 15th century AD . Literally means "Rati" (love through) copulating , "Ratna" means jewel, gem and "Pradipika" means illuminator .

The Mysore Oriental Research Institute has an old, complete copy of the work in Sanskrit.

The work

The Ratiratnapradipika is a small script in the Kamashastra tradition of the Indian art of love . The work consists of 485 verses, is divided into seven chapters and builds on older Indian writings on eroticism such as the Kama Sutra and Ratirahasya .

The chapters are

  1. Part - love in the supposed white and dark fortnight
  2. Part - description of the categories
  3. Part - External coitus
  4. Part - pairing
  5. Part - varieties of positions in Abhyantararata
  6. Part - Description of the Auparistaka
  7. Part - treatment of the various acts of love

This work categorizes women according to their physical, erotic and aphorizing properties and describes how a man should arouse a woman during the two phases of the moon. Men and women are characterized in terms of their sexual and physical characteristics and the compatibility or incompatibility of different combinations of men and women is described. The varieties of sexual pleasure, their techniques and routines with which a woman or a man can be brought to pleasure are presented in detail. There is an emphasis on the variants of oral sex . One chapter deals with 49 different sexual positions. Another aspect of the Ratiratnapradipika is the seduction of women, sexual varieties with different emotional ties or social origins of the woman.
