The Ratsgymnasium Rotenburg

The Ratsgymnasium Rotenburg (Wümme) is a grammar school in the district town of Rotenburg (Wümme) in Lower Saxony . It was founded on March 2, 1949 under the name "Ratsschule Rotenburg".

history

Ratsgymnasium Rotenburg (Wümme)

The Ratsgymnasium Rotenburg was founded in 1949 from the Ratsschule. The building was first erected in 1912, but it was too small and was rebuilt in 1953/54. A total of 18 classes and one “hiking class” were taught.

It all started with a "new type of school" that built on the existing intermediate level. First, a secondary school was set up, with both a high school and a middle school branch from the 7th grade onwards. The students could attend the school up to the 13th grade. After the Second World War , a higher form of school was necessary as the population of Rotenburg had risen from 7,500 to 14,000 and there was a need for education. Since there was a lack of space and competence so far, one could take further training in the nearest larger city of Bremen . After negotiations with the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs in 1947, a combination of an advanced and a middle school was created, which in 1949 became a comprehensive school, which until now had included the seventh and eighth grade and was called "Ratsschule - United Middle and High School". After six years, the school consisted of grades seven through thirteen.

In the spring of 1955, the first school leaving examination was taken. In addition, on May 1, 1955, the senior teacher Krause from Wolfsburg was appointed director of the secondary school. 16 test subjects passed the test.

From September 29 to October 3, 1959, the Ratsgymnasium Rotenburg celebrated the inauguration of its new school building in Gerberstrasse with a week of festivities. After 10 years of construction, the Ratsgymnasium had 26 teachers and 450 students. On October 25, 1957, the foundation stone for the "Ratsgymnasium - Neusprachliches Gymnasium" was laid. After about a year, the students were able to use the first part of the planned new building, in which they had four classrooms and three special rooms.
