Former council scales in Angermünde

The Ratswaage is a listed building in Angermünde , a town in the Uckermark district in the state of Brandenburg .

history

The building was erected in 1752 to store the weights and measures introduced in Brandenburg in 1714, such as the cubit . They were previously in the Town Hall housed the city. In the middle of the building stood the eponymous council scales, with which large goods such as balls of wool were weighed. After the city guard at the town hall was broken off in 1827, the main guard of the 3rd Battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 64 moved into the building from 1860 until the beginning of the First World War . Since then it has been popularly known as the Old Guard . After a renovation, the Angermünde volunteer fire brigade moved into the building and used it until 1997. Two years later, the city began with the renovation, which was completed in 2000. Then she opened her tourist information center there.

Architecture and milestone

The single-storey building with a rectangular floor plan was built in half-timbered construction. The simple saddle roof protrudes noticeably far beyond the building towards Brüderstraße.

Right in front of the main entrance is a milestone of the Upper Franconian town of Seßlach . The stone is a gift on the occasion of the 10th meeting of the Gmünder Association in Europe , which took place from May 26th to 28th, 2000 in Angermünde. Around 250 Gmünders from Saargemünd , Gmünd (Lower Austria) and other comparable cities came to the Uckermark at the meeting.
