The Rauenthaler Tunnel is a 265 meter (eastern tube) or 256 meter (western tube) long railway tunnel in Wuppertal . The structure, opened in 1889, follows the Oberbarmen station on the route via Remscheid to Solingen owned by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahngesellschaft and replaced an earlier above-ground route through the center of the Wuppertal district of Heckinghausen .
The south portals in front of the Rauental depot are next to the Langerfeld tunnel .
