Excelsior was a Belgian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

In 1903 the engineer Arthur de Coninck founded the Compagnie Nationale Excelsior in Brussels and produced cars. In 1907 the company was renamed Société A. De Coninck et Cie , in 1909 Société des Automobiles Excelsior . In 1929 the Belgian competitor Imperia took over the company.

Models

1903 models

The models from 1903 to 1905 had Aster engines with either one, two or four cylinders.

16 CV, 22 CV and 30 CV

In 1905 three new four-cylinder models came on the market. The engines continued to come from Aster, the chassis from Arbel and the gearboxes from Malicet & Blin .

D-4

This model was produced from 1907 to 1914. At first it was also called 14/20 HP , from 1911 D 14/20 and from 1913 D-4 14/20 CV . There was also the sportier type DC 14/20 Rapide and Type B Fiacre as a taxi. All models had a four-cylinder engine. From 1913 the displacement was 2951 cm³.

A vehicle from 1911 can be seen in the Oldtimer Auto Museum in Reninge .

D-6

This model supplemented the model range from 1910 to 1914. Initially it was only called D-6 , from 1913 also D-6 18/24 CV and F 30 CV . These models had a six-cylinder engine with 4426 cm³ displacement, from 1913 with 5344 cm³ displacement.

Adex

The Adex B from 1920 to 1924 had the smaller six-cylinder engine with 4767 cm³ displacement, which made either 70 hp or 85 hp. The Adex C from 1922 to 1927 had the larger six-cylinder engine with 5340 cm³ displacement, which made either 110 hp or 130 hp.

Albert 1

This model was produced from 1926 to 1929. The engine was taken over from the predecessor Adex C.
