Company history
The blacksmith Alexander Claeys married into the Dombrecht family in 1825 and took over their forge in Zedelgem . His son Louis first built agricultural equipment and in 1896 the first bicycle. The company began producing bicycles in 1894, and later also bicycles with auxiliary motors. Mopeds, mopeds and motorcycles were produced between 1954 and 1981.
Automobiles
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary, the company presented a small car at the Brussels Motor Show in February 1954 . A two-cylinder two - stroke engine from ILO with either 250 cm³ or 400 cm³ displacement , which was mounted in the rear of the vehicle, provided the drive. The body was made of sheet steel and offered space for 2 + 2 people. The doors were hung at the front. The maximum speed was specified as 80 km / h for the more powerful model, and the consumption 4.5 liters per 100 km. However, there was no series production.
In 1979 mini cars were again created as three- wheelers and four-wheelers. The vehicles were powered by a two-stroke engine with a capacity of 50 cm³.
Cycling
Claeys Flandria sponsored the Flandria cycling team in the 1950s to 1970s .
