Pipe was a Belgian car brand from Brussels .

Company history

The Compagnie Belge de Construction Automobile began producing passenger cars in 1898 , which ended in 1922. In addition, trucks were built between 1905 and 1932 . Brossel took over the company in 1932 .

The NSU Motorenwerke from Germany was licensee for some cars.

Participation in the 1904 Gordon Bennett Cup for automobiles

In 1904, three vehicles from the Belgian Pipe brand competed in the race on the Taunus circuit for the Gordon Bennett Cup, named after James Gordon Bennett junior . The four-cylinder with 13.5 liter displacement developed 80 hp at 1000 rpm and were among the weakest vehicles in the starting field comprising 18 automobiles from seven nations. The aerodynamic cladding of the car, which weighs almost a ton and was equipped with an electrically operated clutch and four-speed gearbox, is interesting . Two of the three cars starting in Belgian yellow (with the drivers Pierre de Crawhez and Maurice Augieres) retired after defects. The third car, driven by Lucien Hautvast , reached the finish line of the 564-kilometer race in sixth place.

Three years later, the second big race in Germany, the Emperor's Prize in the Taunus, ererichte Hautvast on pipe behind the Fiat - works driver Felice Nazzaro second place.
