The Fucino “Piero Fanti” space center is a satellite ground station near Avezzano in Italy . It is operated by the Italian company Telespazio and is considered the largest civil space center in the world. The center is named after Piero Fanti , the first director of Telespazio.

The first antenna was installed in Fucino in 1962, and the first test connections were made via the Telstar and Relay 1 satellites . With connections via Intelsat I (Early Bird), the station went into commercial operation in 1965.

In 2012, 90 satellite antennas and 14 control rooms were located on an area of 0.37 km². At that time, the two Eutelsat satellites Eutelsat 13A and Eutelsat 13B were controlled from Fucino, as well as the Intelsat 9 satellite and the four satellites of the COSMO-Skymed program .

On December 20, 2010 the Galileo Control Center went into operation in Fucino , one of the two ground stations from which the European Galileo navigation system is controlled. The other is located in the Galileo Control Center (GCC) Oberpfaffenhofen.
