Room filter (shelter)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Important: This is about the room filters that are used in shelters in the old federal states. The ventilation technology in the GDR bunkers was fundamentally different.

The room filters in a shelter are an important part of the protective ventilation system. They filter out all pollutants and warfare agents from the air that are not retained by the pre-filter ( sand filter or dust filter). They also have a particle filter and an activated carbon filling . The internal structure is similar to that of a respiratory protection filter . The air flows through the room filter from top to bottom. Not all shelters are equipped with room filters, often they only have a sand filter, which should hold back most of the pollutants and warfare agents.

Executions

The spatial filters are currently available in four sizes:

  • R0.75: Smallest version. These filters are placed directly on the ventilation unit. They are designed for an air flow of 0.75 cubic meters per minute and come z. B. used in house security rooms .
  • R1.5: As above, but slightly larger and air flow rate 1.5 cubic meters per minute.
  • R3.0: These filters are the smallest that are used in public shelters. They are usually mounted on filter plates in a separate room, shielded from radiation, so that the operating personnel of the protective air fans (which must be operated manually in the event of a power failure) are not exposed to radiation. Air flow 3 cubic meters per minute.
  • R10: This is the largest version. These filters weigh around 200 kg, which is why they have rollers to make them easier to move. They are screwed to the lines provided for this purpose and fixed to the floor or wall with special brackets so that they do not become independent in the event of vibrations. R10 room filters are installed in most of the larger shelters. Air flow is 10 cubic meters per minute.

Others

Like respiratory protection filters, room filters are  to be stored in a sealed manner, as otherwise their effectiveness could be weakened in an emergency. They are only built into the ventilation system in an emergency. In order to be able to test run the ventilation system , intermediate pieces are installed instead of the filters, which simulate the air resistance of the room filters.
