Ray Smith (singer, Oklahoma)

David Ray Smith , also Oscar Ray Smith (* before 1956 in Oklahoma ; † 1997 ) was an American rockabilly musician. He is not related to country singer Ray Smith or rockabilly singer Ray Smith from Kentucky.

Life

Born David Ray Smith ("Oscar Ray Smith" according to other sources), Smith began his career in 1956 with Heart Records, where he released the single Gone Baby Gone / Swinging Boogie with the Rocking Wranglers . At the radio station KRHD Smith recorded some demo tapes, which he sent Joe Leonard, an employee of Lin Records . Leonard referred him to the Lins sub-label , Kliff Records. There he took on as "David Ray" on seven other titles, four of which were published. In 1997 an album with his collected works was released.
