Raymond Washington

Raymond Lee Washington (born August 14, 1953 in Los Angeles - † August 9, 1979 ) was the founder of the Crips , an American street gang.

Washington was born on August 14, 1953 in Los Angeles , California , and was the youngest of Violet Samuel and Reginald Washington's four sons. His parents divorced when he was two years old.

As a teenager, Washington often had problems with the Los Angeles Police Department for assault.

Creation of the Crips

In 1969, at the age of sixteen, Washington started a gang called "Hoover Crips" with young people from the neighborhood. The gang wanted to imitate a gang of older youth, the " Avenue Boys ". The gang was later renamed "Avenue Crips". Washington was the best fighter on the Avenue Crips. The gang was later renamed "Crips" again. Washington had made a lot of enemies with its history.

On August 9, 1979, shortly before his 26th birthday, Raymond Lee Washington was murdered in a drive-by in South Central Los Angeles. He was taken to Morningside Hospital where, while being treated, he died. According to witnesses, Washington was standing on a street corner when a car appeared with unknown people calling him over. After a short small talk conversation, the passenger shot him in the stomach. The police and his relatives were certain that Raymond knew his killers, as he would not have gone to a vehicle with strangers. Nobody was arrested and the crime has not yet been solved.
