The Realschule Schloss Wittgenstein ( RSW for short ) is a private Realschule at Wittgenstein Castle in Bad Laasphe , North Rhine-Westphalia . The Wittgenstein Castle Gymnasium is attached to the school building . Currently (as of 2019) 22 teachers are teaching 16 classes.
history
The school was founded in 1954 and was only attended by male students between the ages of 11 and 16 until 1974. Up until the same time, the school was essentially a boarding school, and since 1974 pupils from the surrounding area have also been able to attend the school. Since the school is the only secondary school in Bad Laasphe and therefore also fulfills public functions, around half of the students currently (2014) come from Bad Laasphe, a little over 10% are boarding school students and the others come from the surrounding area.
The school community takes part in various events every year. This includes u. a. the school's own Christmas market, which is organized together with the Wittgenstein high school, which is also located at Wittgenstein Castle. The national youth games take place every year and are held in seven different disciplines (sprint, 800-meter run, high and long jump, shot put, etc.).
In 1991 the school was expanded to include the so-called "Building 75" with four more classrooms. Around 400 students are currently attending the school. (As of March 2019) Klaus Teuchert was the headmaster until July 31, 2019, and Melanie Dietrich has been the headmaster since August 1, 2019.
Special
The school offers numerous working groups (AG).
Wittgenstein Castle is one of the few schools in Germany that has a boarding school with a riding stables. There, pupils in working groups receive an introduction to the care and keeping of horses, the focus is on keeping animals and handling them. The grounds of Wittgenstein Castle cover more than 34,000 m².
The VWS ensures that the students who do not live in the boarding school can reach the school by mobile device.
