Rebel salute
The Rebel Salute is an annual music festival in Jamaica . It takes place every year on January 15th, the birthday of promoter Tony Rebel . It is one of the largest music festivals in Jamaica, known for its focus on political content ( roots and conscious rap ). The festival began in Mandeville in 1994 and then took place in Saint Elizabeth Parish until 2012 . As of 2014, the festival has been a two-day event held at the Richmond Park Estate on Saint Ann Parish .
The festival was called Pepsi Rebel Salute during a three-year sponsorship deal with PepsiCo . Festival producers said they were pursuing the deal because Pepsi products were more in line with the festival's attitude, which did not allow alcohol or meat. According to Tony Rebel, the festival also features dancehall performers who are normally not known for political ( conscious ) lyrics, accounting for their maiden name instead of their stage name to highlight their "good side".
