WGPR is a radio station from Detroit , Michigan and broadcasts under the name "Hot107.5".
WGPR was founded on December 6, 1961. The station's studios are on East Jefferson, Detroit. The transmitter is on the Maccabees Building of Wayne State University and belongs to the Masonic Lodge International Free & Accepted Modern Masons . The musical direction of the station is currently hip-hop . WGPR was one of the first radio stations in the US to broadcast messages specifically for African Americans. In 1975, WGPR-TV went on the air, the first television station in the United States to have Afro-American owners, and its programs were aimed specifically at Afro-Africans. WGPR and WGPR-TV programs are still primarily aimed at this population group.
