Recalbox OS is a free open source - distribution on Linux -based dedicated to the retro gaming dedicated.

Originally programmed for Raspberry Pi , version 4.1 is now available for ODROID and 32/64-bit x86 systems. It works on other systems like ARM too .

The French developer is called "digitalLumberjack". His stated intention was to approximate the operating model of a console operating system in order to make it a fast and optimized operating system while remaining very easy to use.

From version 4, the distribution emulates around 50 consoles and operating systems via piFBA and RetroArch as well as EmulationStation24 as a cross-platform graphical user interface with controller navigation. After all, Raspberry Pi Noobs serves as an installation / recovery system.

Additionally, the Kodi media player is natively built into the distribution to serve as a multimedia center .

Version 6.0 (DragonBlaze) was released in 2019.
