Rechentechnik / datenverarbeitung ( rd for short ) was a German IT magazine that originally appeared in the GDR and, after the fall of the Wall, also briefly in the Federal Republic of Germany .

The magazine was founded in 1964 under the name Rechentechnik, Rationalisierung, Datenverarbeitung in the financial organs and from 1966 it was distributed under the name Rechentechnik / datenverarbeitung . rd was published by Die Wirtschaft , Berlin. The monthly issues initially cost 1.80 MDN , later 4.50 MDN or marks per issue; the special price for the GDR was 3.60 M [DN]. This price later fell to 3.40 M. Since the early 1970s, the so-called rd supplements have also appeared quarterly. From 1982 onwards, an independent publication called edv aspekte developed from these . The price for these booklets was 5.00 M.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the number of customers for computer technology / data processing rose sharply. According to the former editor-in-chief, the magazine peaked in popularity in January 1990 with 20,000 subscribers. In February 1991 the magazine was taken over by IDG-Verlag . However, due to the greatly reduced circulation, the publisher discontinued the paper at the turn of the year 1991/92. The subscribers were taken over into the PC world .
