Rechenzentrum is an IDM band from Berlin , Germany. It was founded in 1997 by DJ Marc Weiser and the Irish video artist Lillevän Pobjoy. The film composer and sound designer Christian Conrad joined as a pure studio member and was primarily responsible for the sound of the first three studio albums. In 2004 he left the project. The group had their first appearance at the Documenta 1997 in Kassel. In 2008 the video artist Lillevän Pobjoy also left the project, which according to Marc Weiser's homepage has since been called Rechenzentrum 2.0.

style

The band is not limited to just electronic music, but also deals with film and video art. The video artist Lillevän Pobjoy in particular ensured that the band's live performances always turned into an audiovisual work of art. At the beginning of the project (up to the release of the debut album Rechenzentrum ) techno and house sounds were in the foreground, their style changed "[...] to abstract sound collages that process conventional sound structures at most as quotations but otherwise see it as an increasing and decreasing data stream.
