Reckertshausen (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reckertshausen is a submerged village in the area of today's town of Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Reckertshausen belonged to the parish of Girkhausen .

location

The place was two kilometers north of Girkhausen at the exit of the Hesselbach valley. The settlement still exists under the field name Seibels Kirchhof .

history

When the village came into being and when it became a desert cannot be said exactly. In 1354 the Knights of Girkhausen lost all their property rights to the Counts of Wittgenstein . This sell-out of Girkhäuser's property could be a reason for the abandonment of the village. The plague epidemic of 1568 could also be responsible for the demise of the settlement.

Reckertshausen had its own chapel and cemetery.
