Red Headed Stranger is a concept album by US country singer Willie Nelson , which was released in 1975 on Columbia Records .
The work tells the story of a priest who passionately kills his wife and her lover and then travels through the country on the run.
The album made Nelson a celebrated superstar of the outlaw movement . It was Nelson's first hit album that peaked at # 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. It also contained his first number 1 hit single, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain .
The CMT voted it number one on their list of the 40 greatest country albums of all time in 2006 . The Rolling Stone listed it on the 184th position of its list of 500 best albums of all time .
Nelson also received a common nickname from this album, Red Headed Stranger . So was z. B. the Monk episode , in which Nelson had a guest appearance, in the original Mr. Monk and the Red Headed Stranger .
The album itself is one of the most successful on the country music scene and confirmed the success of the outlaw movement.

Singles
The first single, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain , hit # 1 on the Billboard Country Charts, making it Nelson's first number 1 single. The song also made it to number 21 on the pop charts, making it a successful crossover hit.
The second single Remember Me was number 2 in the country charts and 67th in the pop charts.
