Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain is a country song by Fred Rose , the first time from 1945 Roy Acuff was taken.

The song addresses the painful separation of two lovers who will not meet again after they kiss goodbye ( When we kissed goodbye and parted / I knew we never meet again ). But in all sorrow the protagonist is sure of an otherworldly reunion that will take place in a country that knows no separation ( Someday when we meet up yonder / We'll stroll hand in hand again / In a land that knows no parting ) .

Recordings

In 1945 Roy Acuff was the first to record the ballad, but had no success with the number. In 1951, Hank Williams tried the song. This is a live recording from Mother's Best Flour Hour . Williams' version later appeared with additional songs in a box set from Time Life.

The piece only became world famous in 1975 through the interpretation of Willie Nelson from his album Red Headed Stranger . Released as a single, the song made it to number one on the Country Billboard Singles Chart, reached number 21 on the pop charts, and won a Grammy for Best Male Vocal Performance - Country . In addition, Nelson's version received a nomination for best country song .

1976 took Elvis Presley song for his penultimate studio album From Elvis Presley Blvd on. Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain was also the last song Presley sang in front of an audience in his life. He played the piece on the piano in his room at Graceland the night before his death.

In 2005, Rolling Stone listed Nelson's version at number 302 on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time .
