Individual evidence

  1. The family name is to be interpreted as a toponym for "Schmalzieg-Ried", "clearing populated by young deer goats". "Schmalziege" is to be understood as a synonym for "Schmalreh" or "Schmalgeiß", as a young deer goat that has not yet calved is called in the hunter's language. Accordingly, the family name "Schmalzigaug" explains itself as "Deer goose eye".
