Red team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Red Team or Red Team is an independent group that is supposed to bring an organization to improve its effectiveness by acting as an opponent. The aim is always to detect security gaps before an external third party can exploit them. It is particularly effective in organizations with rigid structures and well-established procedures. The United States ' intelligence services , both military and civil, have red teams that put themselves in the position of hostile states and run scenarios and write reports.

Private companies that work with government organizations in the USA or are armaments companies such as IBM and Leidos , as well as government agencies such as the CIA , have been using Red Teams for a long time. In the armed forces of the United States , they are increasingly used, since the audit committee of the Defense Ministry has recommended.

Penetration tests evaluate the security of the organization without evaluating the employees of the company being tested. This type of test gives a more realistic picture of the security situation than exercises, role play and other announced tests. Countermeasures are then taken as a result of the test.
