The Redberry Lake is approximately 53 square kilometers larger lake in the center of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan , about 60 km north west of Saskatoon and about 10 km southeast of Hafford. The lake is surrounded by Aspen Parkland .
The lake differs from the surrounding lakes in that it is not a fresh water lake, but a slightly salty lake. In 1926 the salinity was measured at 12 g / l and in 1988 at 24 g / l.
A provincial park, the Redberry Lake Regional Park , has been located in the northwestern area of the lake since 1968 . There is also an important bird sanctuary on its banks, the Canadian IBA Redberry Lake Federal Migratory Bird Sanctuary . The main features of the bird sanctuary have existed since 1925. The yellow-footed plover , whooping crane , the rhinoceros pelican and the Louisiana strangler belong to the species of birds that occur and are threatened by the lake .
The lake forms the core part of a biosphere reserve of UNESCO , which was established in 2000th
