The Redbone Coonhound is not from the FCI recognized dog breed in the United States. He is recognized as a breed by the UKC and, since 2009, the AKC .

The Redbone Coonhound is primarily bred in Georgia . The name probably goes back to a breeder named Peter Redbone from Tennessee . The Redbone Coonhound is a medium-sized (up to 66 cm) hunting dog . The dog's coat is short, hard and close-fitting, in red or red / white. He is the only Coonhound that is predominantly monochrome. It often only has white spots on its paws or chest. Like all coonhounds, it is used to hunt raccoons , but also as a companion dog .
