The United Kennel Club (UKC) is an umbrella organization for dog breeding and dog sport , originally from the USA , but is now also active in other countries. It is the largest and oldest such association outside of the FCI , KC and AKC . Its legal seat is in Kalamazoo in the US state Michigan .
history
The UKC was founded in 1898 by Chanucy Bennet . The foundation arose from the need to introduce a registration for American Pit Bull Terriers , as this breed was not recognized by the American Kennel Club . As a result, some hunting dog breeds from the Coonhound family were initially recognized and the list of recognized breeds was continuously expanded over time.
Races
Today the UKC recognizes a total of 439 different dog breeds. The five most commonly registered breeds are Treeing Walker Coonhound , American Pit Bull Terrier , Bluetick Coonhound , American Black and Tan Coonhound, and English Coonhound . According to its own information, the UKC registers around 250,000 pedigree dogs per year.
