Redelinghuys is a place in the municipality of Bergrivier , West Coast District , Western Cape Province in South Africa . In 2011 it had 574 inhabitants. It is located about 190 kilometers north of Cape Town . As with many places in the Sandveld , potato growing is a major economic factor.
Redelinghuys was originally part of the Wittedrift farm . Sir George Napier handed this over to Hendrik Koetzee in 1841, who died in 1848. JNL Redelinghuys bought the farm and gave a piece of the farm as a gift to the church. Construction of the first church began in 1866; The first service took place in 1873. In 1921 a new church was built, the old church bell is still in use.
