Reductress is an American feminist satire website that primarilyparodiesarticles from women's magazines . The website was founded in 2013 by comedians Beth Newell and Sarah Pappalardo.

Beth Newell has worked at The Upright Citizen's Brigade , Caroline's on Broadway , and The Magnet Theater . Sarah Pappalardo worked as a comedian and freelance writer. After talking about stereotypes in women's media , they founded Reductress in April 2013 . In August 2016, the website was generating 1.7 million monthly visitors. The website has an office in the Flatiron District in Manhattan, New York.

In October 2016, Reductress published the book How To Win At Feminism: The Definitive Guide To Having It All — And Then Some! By HarperOne . .

Style and content

Reductress is a feminist satirical news website. Originally conceived as a parody of women's magazines and their clickbait titles, the site broadened its focus to include media attempts to capitalize on feminism while still portraying women as inferior. The site has also parodied aspects of feminism such as: B. "White feminism".

Reductress publishes satirical advice columns , news, listicles and profiles. The style of the articles has been compared to The Onion .

reception

The Daily Dot describes Reductress as "not just biting and devastatingly funny, but an amazing, sad, and very necessary look at the way women are badly deceived in the media". According to Wired , Reductress has quickly become one of the funniest, most focused humor sites on the web with articles like "Actually, I'm an Intersectional Men's Rights Activist" and "How To Friendzone Ethan While He's Still Inside You." Reductress received particular praise for the articles on rape published in August 2016.
