The Reformed Church is a church building in the Hungarian city of Kecskemét . The church is located in the city center at 7 Szabadság tér.

history

The Reformed parish in Kecskemét had a wooden church that burned down completely in October 1678. At that time, Hungary was under Turkish rule and the Turks did not allow the townspeople to build a new stone church. But Kecskemét finally got the necessary permits.

Construction work on the new church began in 1680 and the festive inauguration took place four years later. The interior was richly colored, but later it was painted white as part of renovations. The 53 meter high tower was built in the Baroque style.

On July 8, 1911, a powerful earthquake damaged many buildings in the city, including this church. But the church was rebuilt and a tower clock was added in 1988.

Bells

The church has four different bells:

  • Rákóczi bell (2000 kg)
  • Szappanos bell (980 kg)
  • Koháryszentlőrinci bell (590 kg)
  • Small bell (74 kg)
