Intergovernmental Conference of the Mountain Cantons

In the Intergovernmental Conference of the Mountain Cantons (RKGK), the governments of the cantons Uri (UR), Obwalden (OW), Nidwalden (NW), Glarus (GL), Graubünden (GR), Ticino (TI) and Wallis (VS) have come together Representation in mountain-specific questions united. The conference was founded in 1981. It is the largest regional conference in the entire area of ​​Switzerland in accordance with the country's share. purpose

After initially limiting the purpose of the conference to the coordination of questions relating to the use of hydropower, the RKGK's areas of work were expanded. According to the statutes, the RKGK aims today:

  • the coordination and joint representation of rural and mountain-specific concerns and interests vis-à-vis the federal government, the cantons, the associations and the public;
  • an effective demonstration of the benefits of rural and mountain areas for the cohesion of the whole country;
  • efficient cooperation between the cantonal administrations by means of mutual information about upcoming challenges for the rural area and the mountain area as well as by developing joint solutions.

Legal form and organization

The RKGK is organized as an association. The Presidium changes between the cantons.
