Government consultations

Government consultations are meetings between the governments of two states . They have an informative and advisory role. In addition to the Government of both countries also are all other ministers of the Cabinet present. Government consultations are seen as an expression of intensive cooperation between two states.

German-French government consultations (1963-2003)

The first intergovernmental consultations with France took place in 1963 when the Franco-German friendship treaty ( Élysée Treaty ) was signed . From now on, the cabinets of both countries should meet every six months. On the 40th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty in 2003, the Franco-German Council of Ministers met for the first time , which is supposed to put Franco-German cooperation on a new level, so that there is no longer any official talk of government consultations.

There have been no official government consultations with the United States . For the first time, however, a total of five federal ministers traveled to the USA with Chancellor Angela Merkel in June 2011 , so that at least there was talk of unofficial government consultations.
