Regina Schüttenhelm

Regina Felicitas Schüttenhelm (born July 9, 1964 in Siegen ) is a former German judoka who was fifth in the 1992 Olympics.

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Regina Schüttenhelm fought in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 72 kilograms , from 1985 . In 1987, she took third place with the German team at the European Team Championships. In 1988 she won the World Masters in Rüsselsheim, and in 1990 she won the German Open in Berlin. In December 1990 she became world champion among students in Brussels. In 1991 and 1992 she won the German championships. At the Olympic premiere of women's judo in Barcelona in 1992 , she defeated the Cuban Niurka Moreno in the round of 16 and defeated the British Josie Horton in the quarter-finals . In the hope round, Schüttenhelm defeated Sandra Bacher from the United States and Katarzyna Juszczak from Poland . In the battle for a bronze medal, she lost to the Dutch Irene de Kok after 3:06 minutes. In 1993, after 1987 and 1991, she won bronze for the third time with the German team at the European Team Championships.

Regina Schüttenhelm started for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In 1989, 1990 and 1991 she won the German championship with the Leverkusen team.
