The Puerto Rico region is one of the five international regions that sent participants to the Junior League Baseball World Series . The Puerto Rico region has been participating in this tournament since 1981.
Puerto Rico was the first region outside the United States to participate in the JLWS. From 2001, the regions of Puerto Rico and Mexico were combined with other states to form the Latin America region . Since 2004 Puerto Rico and Mexico have their own groups again. In the even years Mexico gets a permanent starting place in the odd Puerto Rico. In the years in which they have no direct starting place, they can qualify via the Latin America region.
