The Koper Regional Archive ( Pokrajinski arhiv Koper , also Archivio regional di Capodistria) is an archive in the Slovenian town of Koper , which mainly stores and indexes archival material from the north of the Istrian peninsula , but especially from Koper itself. It is located in the former monastery of St. Clara, Kapodistriasov trg 1. It belongs to the archive network of the Republic of Slovenia and offers, in addition to archives from Koper, holdings from Izola , Ilirska Bistrica , Piran , Postojna and Sežana . In 1967 it was renamed the Koper Provincial Archives, and on June 20, 1974 it was merged with the Piran City Archives, where there is a branch at Savudrijska 5.

The boundaries in the Trieste-Koper area since 1947

The finding aids distinguish 927 funds that are in the magazine . Of these stocks, 332 come from the administration area alone, which corresponds to more than 2,700 meters of shelving out of a total of around 6,400 meters. In addition, there are 92 funds from the judiciary sector, 144 from the education, culture, and science sectors, as well as other holdings from the fields of business, political associations and state welfare, from clubs, associations and other archival material from civil society. There are also 38 closed collections.

The archive goes back to the holdings of libraries. While a city archivist was hired in Piran from 1871 and the local archive was combined with the city library in 1891, the development in Koper only began later, when a similar institution was founded on the initiative of the Historical Society of the Yugoslav Zone of Trieste (1947 to 1954), which was independent at the time . On October 1, 1953, the archive and the city library were separated, with Mario Bratina becoming the first director. After Yugoslavia occupied Zone B of Trieste's territory , the Koper City Archives were established in 1956, and on July 1, 1966, their jurisdiction was extended to the municipalities of Ilirska Bistrica , Izola , Postojna and Sežana .
