Regions in Swaziland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eswatini has been divided into four regions (Siswati: Tifundza teSwatini ) on the second administrative level since the constitution of 2005 came into force . Each region has a regional administrator , a regional secretary and a regional council , the members of which are appointed by the king. Most of these offices are held by relatives or friends of the royal family.

The ISO-3166-2 code for Eswatini contains the codes for the four regions. The designation of the country name was changed in ISO Code ISO-3166-2 on July 16, 2018 in the long form to Kingdom of Eswatini in the short form Eswatini and in the local short form in Siswati to eSwatini . On November 26, 2018, the designation for the administrative units in ISO Code ISO-3166-2 was changed from the former district to region . The names for the four regions are spelled the same in English and Siswati.

Tourist regions

For tourism purposes, the country was divided into five tourism regions, which do not correspond to the administrative boundaries, nor to the climatic zones or the natural structure. The five zones are based on accessibility, possible travel destinations, activities and interests of tourists.

These five regions are named and characterized as follows:

  • Central Eswatini: Cultural Heartland
  • North West Eswatini: Highland Adventures
  • North East Eswatini: Conservation & Community
  • South East Eswatini: Wildlife Up Close
  • South West Eswatini: Scenic Splendor
