The rehab Swiss is a Swiss development organization, people with a disability in the developing world , particularly in the Indian subcontinent , supported. It was founded in 1977 by Joseph Aerthott, an Indian naturalized in Switzerland , together with Swiss friends as an association.
According to its own statements, the association is politically and religiously neutral. From donations and contributions from the federal government , communities, churches and other institutions, Rehaswiss arranges independent and meaningful work for 700 to 1000 disabled people every year. The association supports individuals with monetary and material donations, in particular with vocational training and integration into everyday work. This ensures that disabled people can be integrated as well as possible into life in their families and places.
The association currently works with 25 non-governmental organizations in India and Bangladesh . These local partners take over the selection and support of the disabled in order to ensure the successful implementation of the projects. Since 2000, small business start-up capital for tools, machines or small shops has mostly been financed with microloans , which can be repaid in three years.
The association has had the ZEWO seal of approval since 1989. Since 1989 he has been supported by the Directorate for Development and Cooperation . The association has an annual budget of around CHF 400,000. About 150,000 francs of this is paid by the SDC, the rest is raised through donations and membership fees.
So far, the association is the only Swiss aid organization that deals exclusively with the professional and social integration of disabled people in developing countries, primarily in India.
